I always consider a Daphne to be a middle class, bleached-blonde white woman with shoulder pads who works as an executive, and has a flamboyant personality.

A Daphne sticks two fingers up to the world out "goes out for a smoke" as she pleases. She laughs a smoker's laugh, and says things like "That's so 1990, dahhrling!"

I am sort of stuck here, cuz both DC and DLD r great, but ill have to say DLD because of how they came from a little band in Washington to a now well known band. I think DLD will soon grab DC fans attention.

I don't know about Gothic, but Rev Sabine Baring-Gould wrote a lot of novels set in Devon and Cornwall. His " In the Roar of the Sea" is set around St Enodoc and reminds me very much of Dapne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn. It was published in 1892, and is not the sort of book you would expect a Victorian Vicar to write.

Reply:Victoria Holt (also known as jean Plaidy) wrote a lot of Gothic novel, some of which i think are set in Cornwall.

Winston Graham's 'Poldark' series were set in Cornwall, though I am not sure they are Gothic, a bit maybe.

'I Capture the Castle' is NOT set in Cornwall, it is set in East Anglia, which is a very long way from Cornwall and about as different from Cornwall as you can get, East Anglia being mostly quite flat, and Cornwall being all hills and cliffs and moors.

The crash happened on 11th may... Christopher Watt was taken to hospital that day..but released the same day.. so obviously he wasn't injured much...The third driver was uninjured..

No charges have been brought ..the crash is still under investigation..but it is unlikely to bring charges..

i know that the book is not by the same author, but it is part two to Daphne Du Maurier's "Rebecca". i used to know what it was, but then i forgot it. so i know it's out there, i just need help remembering what it is. can anyone help?

I have always been afraid of reading both because I liked "Rebecca" so much. I don't know if anything could follow up the original. In any case, the ending of the Rebecca was such that I didn't think a sequel was necessary. I wanted to imagine my own possibilities.

The assignment was to research the literary term gothic and describe how Rebecca fits this defenition. please tell me what i should change or how it sounds

Rebecca

A gothic novel is characterized by horror, violence, supernatural effects, and medieval elements. It is usually set against a background of gothic architecture especially a gloomy and isolated castle. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, fits the definition of a gothic novel perfectly. In this book we follow the lead character, a young woman, as she marries a wealthy man and goes to live with him at his estate where his last wife died. It includes many of the elements required for gothic literature.

The setting for much of the book is at Manderley, a large estate belonging to Maximilian de Winter, one of the lead characters in the book. While it is not very clear on whether the architecture was gothic, it can be said that Manderley was not isolated. Many people came to visit the lead characters throughout the book, and a ball was even held. The atmosphere at Manderley, however, was very gloomy due to the death of Rebecca, Maxim’s first wife. The head maid at Manderley, Mrs.Danvers, was very close to Rebecca and felt as if the lead character was trying to take her place. The lead character feels as if Rebecca is still there, and that she will never be accepted. All this while Maxim is acting very distant, and the lead character decides that he is still grieving the death of Rebecca.

Another gothic element in the book is when we learn that Rebecca did not drown like everyone thought, but was murdered by Maxim. Maxim and the lead character spend the rest of the book trying to cover up the murder. Rebecca is a wonderful gothic novel.

I think you've done a great job in summing up "Rebecca" and comparing it to various gothic terms. The only thing I could think of to add would be perhaps something about Maxim's appearance. I seem to remember that the narrator did a sketch of Maxim very early in the book; she seemed to see him in a medieval, Middle Ages kind of way, as someone being from that era. Other than that I think you've done a fine job. :-)

Thanks! It's a 2-part question. I can't remember the game title but it's the 3D version for Game Cube that features Dirk the Knight and he must rescue Daphne. I got up to the big Dragon at the end but can't find his weak spot. What do I do?

Also for Game Cube, it's sort of a role-playing/action game called Dark Alliance. I've searched the crypt, the cellar, and both levels of the sewer. I noticed that at the end of the cellar there is a hidden room with a treasure chest but I can't access it. I really don't know how to proceed in the game and feel like I'm going in circles. I live in Zone 4 (Minnesota) and I had planted a Daphne (Carol Mackie) this year. I want to make sure it will come back next year and was wondering what I need to do to make sure it doesn't die over the winter. Please help if you can. Thanks!

There isn't a lot of care involved. If it makes you feel more comfortable you could add a thin layer (1") of mulch around the plant. However keep in mind that many daphnes, including Carol Mackie, are notorious for dying suddenly for no obvious reason, even in good soil with excellent drainage.

I want to see what people think of it. Trash it, praise it, go for it! We're thinking Daphne Margaret. Margaret is a family name for me, and we won't be changing it.

I think it's a great name! It's not on the list of names I'm hoping to use someday, but it's definitely on the list of names I admire and frequently recommend.

It has always seemed like a rather European choice to me. It reminds me of a Belgian friend I had in elementary school, and it also makes me think of Daphne Moon on the show "Frasier" (the nutty psychic physical therapist from Manchester).

I have always loved the name Margaret, and I think it makes a fabulous middle name for Daphne.

In the future, water has covered much of the Earth due to the effects of global warming. It is possible that she somehow gets stuck with the nick name Daphey because they are somewhat similar sounding. I don't think Daphey is a bad nick name at all and I personally wouldn't automatically associate it with Daphey Duck. If you don't like that nick name or have a problem with it you may want to reconsider.

Who wrote the myth of Daphne and Apollo?
There were several versions of the myth.

Ovid's is the most famous. Presumably he himself had a Greek source for his story, although whatever that was it is no longer extant. A Greek writer named Philostratus says the story was an old Arcadian legend.

A greek writer named Parthenius gives a summary of another version of the story, quoting two earlier (lost) poets named Diodorus of Elaea and .Phylarchus.

Reply:Given the nature of Myth no one actually "wrote" the myth as such. Instead it is a story that has arisen, been moulded and changed through a number of tellings.

There is very little information on Daphne and Apollo however it seems to be most comprehensively written about in "Metamorphoses" by Ovid (Its found in Book 1). I think this is the most detailed written account of the myth and therefore probably can be referenced. Just make sure you make it clear that you understand that "myth" is a fluid concept. You can buy a penguin version of the Ovid, its a classic.
Reply:Graves' Greek Myths says that the earliest written version date to the Hellenistic era so the story in its literary form is post classical but may have an earlier oral source.

The story is found in Apollodorus 1.7.9, Plutarch's life of Agias 9, Hyginus' Fables 203, Pausanias 8.20.2, and 10.5.3. and two more authors you willnt be able to find online Parthenius and Tzetzes.

It also appears in Latin in Ovid's Metamorphoses 1.5.452.

You should be able to find free etext versions or library books of Plutarch's Loves and Ovid's Metamorphoses from several sites. I think there is a free etext version of Pausanias and Apollodorus somewhere on line.

Try to Google all those authors since there are several sites making classical texts available for free downloads.

There may well be some I hanvt found yet!

INGREDIENTS

1 (8 ounce) container fat-free plain yogurt

1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese with basil and sun-dried tomatoes

1/2 teaspoon lemon zest

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

2 teaspoons dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon crushed dried rosemary

1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into 1 inch pieces

1 large red onion, cut into wedges

1 large green bell pepper, cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces

DIRECTIONS

In a large shallow baking dish, mix the yogurt, feta cheese, lemon zest, lemon juice, oregano, salt, pepper, and rosemary. Place the chicken in the dish, and turn to coat. Cover, and marinate 3 hours in the refrigerator.

Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat.

Thread the chicken, onion wedges, and green bell pepper pieces alternately onto skewers. Discard remaining yogurt mixture.

Grill skewers on the prepared grill until the chicken is no longer pink and juices run clear.

You can omit the veggies and just use chicken if you like.

Compare and Contrast two movies

In this paper, I’m going to compare and contrast on two movies. They are the Family Stone and Because I said so. Both of movies I enjoyed very much because, it has my favorite actress in them. Both movies are comedy and have basically the same characters. Also, mostly the same plot. The Family Stone release in December of 2005 and Because I said so release in February of 2007. Both movies are about families.

The plot in The Family Stone “is set during Christmas time in a town called Thayer Connecticut.” Dermot Mulroney (Everett) brings home his girlfriend Meredith (Sarah Jessica Parker) to meet his family. The family doesn’t like Meredith at all. Meredith is an uptight, annoying to the family members. The rest of the characters are: “Amy is Everett sister; Thad a brother who is deaf and gay and has an African American Partner, Ben another brother, who is an pothead from Berkeley; Susannah is the eldest sister that is pregnant and has an daughter.” One of the daughter attack Meredith and she decide to stay at the inn for a couple of days. Later on the father insists the family to treat her better. Sybil (Diane Keaton) told her son that Meredith was not the one for him. Then Meredith call her sister Julie (Danes) to ask her to come into town for some moral support. Meredith tries to fit in by starting an conversation with Sybil and suddenly what she says the whole family took it the wrong way and an outrage happens. Since then Milly has been unsuccessful in her relationships and Daphne is widowed form an unhappy marriage, spends all her time helping her daughter not end up alone. For example, Daphne place an personal ad without telling Milly. She then goes to a restaurant to meet guys that respond to the ad. After some of the interview that didn’t really go well for her. A guitarist from the restaurant band name Johnny sat down and wanted to meet Milly but Daphne doesn’t think he will work out. Another guy name Jason sat down is an architect and Daphne decides he will be perfect for Milly. Jason and Milly meet for the first time and starts dating. But Milly is more relaxed and neutral to Johnny and she continues to go on two dates. One night Milly had two dates with the two guys. The first guy she went out with was Johnny and his father Joe came over with Lionel because he locked himself out of the house. Daphne and Joe instantly bonded together. Later that night Milly goes out with Jason. Johnny saw them together and confronts her and broke it off. Then Milly realize Jason is not the right guy for her. Then Milly goes back to her unhappy life again. Daphne finally sees that Johnny will make Milly happy. Milly try to talk to Johnny but he wouldn’t talk to her at all. Then “Daphne saw Johnny and tells him that his pride is getting in the way.” At the end the movie closes at another wedding. Johnny and Milly got together. Also, Daphne and Joe are together.

The difference between two of the movies are how one movie starts out in a wedding and the other movie starts during Christmas time. In the Family Stone it was not a good connection with Meredith. The family thinks she is very annoying. In Because I said so the sisters get along together very well and try to help there little sister out a lot.

In conclusion, I enjoyed both movies. Both movies have my favorite actress in it.

Meredith tries to fit in by starting a conversation with Sybil and suddenly what she says the whole family takes it the wrong way and an outrage happens. Another guy named Jason an architect sat down, and Daphne decides he will be perfect for Milly. Jason and Milly meet for the first time and starts dating. But Milly is more relaxed and neutral to Johnny and she continues to go on two dates. One night Milly had two dates with the two guys. The first guy she went out with was Johnny and his father Joe came over with Lionel because he locked himself out of the house. Daphne and Joe instantly bonded together. Later that night Milly goes out with Jason. Johnny saw them together confronted her, and broke it off. Then Milly realized Jason is not the right guy for her. Then Milly goes back to her unhappy life again. Daphne finally sees that Johnny will make Milly happy. Milly tried to talk to Johnny but he wouldn’t talk to her at all. Then Daphne saw Johnny and tells him that his pride is getting in the way. At the end of the movie it closes with another wedding. Johnny and Milly got together. Also, Daphne and Joe are together.

The difference between two of the movies are how one movie starts out in a wedding and the other movie starts during Christmas time. In the Family Stone it was not a good connection with Meredith. The family thinks she is very annoying. In Because I Said So, the sisters get along together very well and try to help their little sister out a lot.

In conclusion, both movies are about two families who care and love each other and want the best for each other. My views are both movies are different from other people. I like both movies.

You might as well give up now. I mean, you recruited Barney, you know, the big, pathetic, completely idiotic purple dinosaur, to defeat me, the multiple time Beatdown Champ %26amp; current IN Champ. But, you are Korean.” Just as he said that, Jong himself , along with Barney, came out. “Ha ha. Very funny, Garfield. So what, you’re the f’n IN Champ. I helped you with most of those win. You wouldn’t be around if it wasn’t for me. The student never beats the master and this is the same.” After a stare off, Johnny Bravo with Daphne came out. “Hey, hey, hey. Where am I in all of this? Garfield, we are mortal enemies and we always will be. And as for you, Jong, if it’s true that you are the ‘master’ than I got more beef with you than Garfield.” Before he could continue, Jong %26amp; Barney pounced on him as Garfield grabbed Daphne’s face. He was about to slap her, but instead, spun her around, where Posh was standing behind her. She hit a Pele on her as Jong locked Bravo into a Jong of Pain. Garfield %26amp; Jong were about to start fighting each other, but GM Daffy came out. “Stop the fighting! As far as I’m concerned, this fight is for nothing, as all 3 of you have so much in common. You are former champs, you’re washed up, and, of course, you’re all huge jacka**es. But, if you want to fight, then it will happen tonight in a 6 man mixed tag match. It’ll be Jong %26amp; his daughter, Kim Sul-Song, vs. Garfield %26amp; Posh vs. Bravo %26amp; Daphne. And if anyone of you, or your armies, touch anyone before the main event, than you all will be banned and/or fired from Beatdown %26amp; the EFW.” He left as Jong %26amp; Garfield went separate ways, staring intensely at each other the whole way.

The first match had Taco Bell Chihuahua face off against Squirtle, the newest member of the Beatdown roster. The first match of the new year promised to be a good one. Squirtle was surprisingly winning against this ex-Cruiserweight Champ. He was about to hit a Headbutt, but The Cruiserweight champ The Noid came out. He was getting in the ring, but Wicket W. Warrick came out and attacked him. As Squirtle hit a Headbutt on Taco for the win, Wicket hit a Wicket-gree on the champ. The new alliance celebrated over the fallen foes.

After that, we go to the back as Beatdown Champ King Arty confronts GM Daffy in his office. “Hey, Daffy. I saw that I was facing Lil Wayne tonight. But you see, I have some very important business to take care of, so is it ok to skip it?” “Sure, Arty. I’ll just replace you with Dr. Dre.” Arty left the office with an evil smile on his face.

We go to the next match as Dr. Dre substitutes for Arty against Lil Wayne. It was a great match. Dre was destroying this young, fresh rapper. He was on the top rope, getting ready for a Drop da Mic, but ice Cube came out ad distracted him %26amp; the ref as Eazy E came from the other side and pushed him off. When Lil Wayne got up, he hit a Weezy-maker as the ref turned around to get the win.

One half of the tag team champions, Grimace, faced off against Calvin. Another great match. Calvin was beating Grimace, still upset from his heart-breaking loss at the end of last year. He was getting ready for a Wagon Ride (Last Ride), but the other half of the champs Hamburgler came out. He was about to hit Calvin, but his partner Hobbes came out and clothelined him over the top rope, to let Calvin hit his move and get the win.

It was main even time with Jong %26amp; Kim Sul-Song vs. Garfield %26amp; Posh vs. Bravo %26amp; Daphne. It was such an amazing match with the women proving very violent. The women were in at the time. Daphne %26amp; Posh were the ones fighting. Daphne dug her nails into Posh’s face and scratched it. She Irish Whipped Posh into the ref. As the ref was down, she dug her nails into Posh’s eyes and practically scratched her eyes out. She was about to throw her out of the ring, but Garfield came in and stopped it, even slapping Daphne. This brought in Bravo. Garfield and Bravo fought into the crowd with Daphne following cheering on Bravo. With all the threats out, Jong %26amp; Sul-Song took advantage of it. Sul-Song hit a Nuclear Powerbomb on Posh and then Jong locked in the Jong of Pain on her. He let go as the ref came to. Kim pinned her to get the win. As they were celebrating, Garfield, Bravo, %26amp; Daphne came charging back in, all wounded severely. The 3 men fought as Kim %26amp; Daphne did the same. When no one became victorious, their armies came out and joined the attack. Bravo %26amp; Daphne, despite having no army, surprisingly hung in there. As the ring flooded with wrestlers, both EFW %26amp; WWE, the Beatdown Champ king arty came out. “Stop it! Where am I in this fight? I’m the one with the belt, after all. But if you aren’t going to recognize me, than I’m going to make you recognize me. Remember when I said I had business to take care of? Well, here it is.” As he said that, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Calvin, Hobbes, Wicket, Squirtle, Tarzan, Mills Lane, %26amp; Jane came out. Arty charged the ring as his new army followed. They joined the fight as the ring was too full of people, bending the ropes back and almost breaking the ring posts. Then, the ropes snapped, the ring posts fell off, and the ring collapsed, with people falling out f the ring and everybody else fell down on the mat. We end as everybody gets up and continues the fighting as security comes out to stop this.

I have, read and seen the movies (The Second movie is more closely related to the story), multiple times. There is so much symbolism in the story, and in the movies. Though, Hitchcock goes for more fright then symbolism.

Just a few weeks ago, my daughter and I was getting out of the car at the grocery store. Immediately, a large flock of seagull starting having a "Bird Conference" in the parking lot. She was Maxim's first wife whom he hated and who was a devious, cruel woman.
Reply:I know WHO she is...she was Max DeWinter's vivacious, sexual, callous, driven and cunning deceased first wife. She's so captivating that the first person character (Max's 2nd wife) who is writing the book never mentions her own name.

The backbone of the story is Max's 2nd wife's search to find her own place against the backdrop of Rebecca's history, which is so vivacious that our pov character seems a shadow, herself.

It's so hard to say what Rebecca was. She is different things at different times because at all times she is viewed through the mistaken point of view of the 2nd Mrs. DeWinters. The 2nd Mrs. DeWinter thinks that Rebecca was Maxim's true love (but she wasn't); Mrs. Danvers seems to think Rebecca was an ideal human being (but she was far from it) and the pov character is unaccountably captivated by the myths of Rebecca that threaten to strangle her marriage.

But I never understand significance questions. I need more specific questions to understand what is being asked.

I think the plot is very old and gets stagnated over a peiod of time.After a certain point you just don't feel llike reading.I thought she disliked her because she was so uncouth and lacked basic etiquette.
Reply:because Mrs. Danvers was fiercely devoted to Rebecca. The narrator is taking her place at Manderley, and even though Mrs. Danvers knows all about the marriage between Rebecca and Max, Manderley was her domain and her ghost haunts it's walls. Mrs. Danvers doesn't want Rebecca forgotten, and in some demented sort of way, I believe some part of her still acts as if she were still alive.

though its a pretty name, "hannah" is too common.

"violet" is nice because its a type of flower and a pretty purple color, too.

rowan is a nice name but it might be hard to come up with nicknames for it.

daphne is my least favorite because i think she's the red-head in scooby-doo! but, its unique and there are many more nicknames (daph, nee-nee...) for it than rowan.

Daphne and Hawthorne both do better in soil that is closer to neutral. They are not acid loving plants. Therefore fertilizers that are meant for acid loving plants like Azalea, Rhododendron, Blue berries, should be avoided. Check your local nursery or garden center for a neutral ferilizer.

"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again" is the book's opening line, and from here its narrator — who is never named, except as "Mrs. de Winter" after her marriage — recalls her past, recounting the tale of an innocent orphaned young woman who, while working as the companion to a society grande dame vacationing on the French Riviera, is swept off her feet by a wealthy Englishman, Maximilian de Winter, marries him, and becomes mistress of his house, the splendid Cornish estate Manderley.

Only after their return to Cornwall does the newlywed realize how difficult it will be to lay to rest the memory of her husband's first wife, Rebecca, who drowned just off the coast but whose spirit seems to pervade the estate and all its inhabitants, especially its domineering housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers, one of the best-known female villains in literature.

Mrs. Danvers, who was profoundly devoted to Rebecca, does her best to undermine the second Mrs. de Winter, suggesting to her that she will never attain the grace and elegance and charm that Rebecca possessed. Lacking self-confidence and overwhelmed by her new life, the protagonist commits one faux pas after another, until she is convinced that Max regrets his impetuous decision to marry her and is still deeply in love with the seemingly perfect Rebecca. The climax comes when, at Manderley's annual fancy dress ball, Mrs. Danvers tricks the protagonist into wearing the same costume worn by Rebecca the year before she died.

Later that night, a storm leads to the remains of Rebecca's boat being discovered. This unexpected event leads Max to confess the truth about how the wilful and adulterous Rebecca taunted him with a series of love affairs. She claimed to be pregnant by another man and threatened to burden Max with the responsibility of raising it. Max, truly hating her, shot her and disposed of her body on her boat, which he sank at sea. The narrator, rather than being frightened by the revelation that her husband is capable of murder, is instead relieved to hear that Max did not love Rebecca.

The investigation into Rebecca's death reveals that she had been suffering from a terminal illness just prior to her death. The implication is that, knowing she was destined to die, Rebecca lied to Max that she had been impregnated by another man, a secret paramour, because she wanted Max to kill her.

During the inquest, the narrator faints at a moment when incriminating evidence against Max is being revealed. People at the inquest blame the heat and poor ventilation in the room, but this faint may have been a deliberate attempt to create a diversion, à la Lady Macbeth.

Upon returning to Manderley after the verdict of suicide is read, Maxim and his bride discover the house in flames, probably set on fire by the deranged Mrs. Danvers and her accomplice, one of Rebecca's former lovers.

I think you're on the right track with your idea. I wondered why she remained nameless as well, and I came up with the same conclusion as you; the tale is really more about Rebecca than it is about the second Mrs. de Winter. After all, Rebecca is still very much 'alive' at Manderley---her spirit is everywhere; her servants are still faithful; she still runs the mansion; her clothes are still laid out every night; her rooms were kept preserved.

I'd say go along with your idea, because it seems to be very correct. :]

*edit: I just thought of this: the namelessness of the second Mrs. de Winter could be symbolic because Mrs. de Winter feels like she could never replace Rebecca. It could be symbolic of her feeling worthless, like Rebecca would go down in history, but everyone would forget the second Mrs. de Winter's name. Maybe it's ironic, intended to make Mrs. de Winter feel like a ghost at Manderley, rather than Rebecca, who is the acutal "ghost." I believe Maxim only ever said Mrs. de Winter's first name once, when he first met her at the beginning of the book, too. Anyway, I hope this helps a little bit.

I have a different opinion to the others (although they are ALL excellent, valid reasons!)

I think we are able to identfy with Mrs. de Winter, because we dont know her name. Other wise, we would feel as though we were sort of "Looking in" on the doings at Manderley. However, by her not having a first name, silly as it sounds I FELT like Mrs de Winter. Maxim could have been talking to ME (Ohhh baby :P) and that makes it more personal. Also, I have an unsual name, so yeah, that made me feel IN the story. I agree with the above guys too though. Excellent book and well worth the read....Thank you Daphne du Maurier! :P

An interesting technique that du Maurier uses is that of a nameless narrator. The nameless narrator upholds the idea of no past, no future. She is ‘now.’

By not giving the narrator a name, du Maurier prevents us from hanging a history on her. Without a name, it is difficult to see her as an individual with a past. Later in the book she is sometimes referred to as Mrs de Winter but that simply reminds us of her predecessor, Rebecca.

Rebecca is static. As a dead person, she lives only in the past. As a result, people’s memories of Rebecca hold the power of the present. The power of death is that what Rebecca did or thought is still true now. When the characters in the novel tell the narrator that ‘Mrs de Winter always used the alabaster vase, Madam.” they entrap the narrator in the past. Ok i have a few questions about the book "rebecca" by daphne du maurier?
Mrs. DeWinters imagines that Maxim will lose his temper and the truth about what really happened to Rebecca will come spilling out. What really happens is that she faints and everyone is distracted by this, and it cuts Maxim's testimony short (he doesn't implicate himself).

When Ben arrives at Manderley he is frightened (he's unused to being in the great house); he behaves as though he's afraid of everyone (he possibly thinks that he may have done something wrong) and isn't able to tell what or who he saw on the night Rebecca died.

I don't think one person holds the "key" to Rebecca, except maybe herself. Everyone who knew her had a little piece of her, but no one except her (Rebecca) knew who she completely was.

Mrs. DeWinter thinks that Maxim will reveal that he shot Rebecca.

I don't remember exactly what happens with Col. Julyan in Chapter 25. I do seem to recall that he, after hearing of certain things from Favell, seemed to become a bit suspicious of Maxim regarding his role in Rebecca's death.

Beatrice seemed to regard the whole inquest as rubbish and that of course her brother Maxim was innocent, or would be found so.

Dr. Baker told Maxim and the rest that Rebecca suffered from cancer and that by the time it was discovered it had already advanced to the non-treatable stage. She would have suffered greatly had she lived (which wouldn't have been for very long anyway) and that he wasn't surprised to hear that she may have committed suicide. He also told them that because of a malformation of her uterus, which had been present since birth, she could have never had children.

Favell is shocked by this news; he thought Rebecca might be carrying his child.

To Col. Julyan this is enough for him to declare that Rebecca killed herself and that Maxim is innocent. Whether he really believes this or not is open to interpretation; some people think that he, in his heart of hearts, believes that Max probably killed Rebecca but because he likes Max he grabbed at the excuse that Dr. Baker provided.

The DeWinters, especially the Mrs., are surprised of course at the doctor's words but pleased with the outcome and looking forward to the rest of their lives together.

The novel ends with Manderley being destroyed by a fire, presumably started by Mrs. Danvers.

A stern, very private and proper, and also mysterious and secretive in the way he behaves to his new wife in relation to what happened to his deceased wife. He's also kind, and gentle nature with what he thinks he has to hide is a secret. Rebecca is a great movie. I will have to see it again!

The only info I could find that connected Daphne Fielding to "Vile Bodies" is that the character Rosa Lewis, who made an appearance in "Vile Bodies" was the subject of a book that Fielding wrote, entitled "The Duchess of Jermyn Street: The Life and Good Times of Rosa Lewis." you probably can't. it's too recent and as such is covered by copyright law, i.e. it is not in the public domain. and i agree, the short story is scarier than the book and while the tone is the same, the setting and characters are very different.

It isn't. She continues with "All the pictures in the gallery would make good costumes, especially that one of the young lady in white, with her hat in her hand." (chapter 16)

Another thing that shows it's not as it seems at first (it initially seems that Rebecca's and Maxim's marriage was perfect %26amp; they were the perfect couple %26amp; he never got over her death) is when Max says "Rebecca has won," in chapter 19 after they find the sunken ship with a body. I don't want to add a spoiler, so I'll only suggest that you keep reading that chapter after that quote. There are things that you learn that aren't what they first seemed.
