Do you like the name 'Daphne Clara'?

Is it pretty?

Unique?

What kind of girl does it make you think of?

Do you like the name 'Daphne Clara'?
Yes! It's so pretty, and I'd say it's unique as well, without being weird. It's not easy to find a name that strikes that balance, so well done. :)

Daphne Clara makes me think of a pretty girl (possibly English) who is kind hearted, well-read, and loves nature and the outdoors.
Reply:I was going to suggest Daphne Claire as well...Clara just doesn't flow well...

Daphne is cute and definitely original. It is a name everyone has heard but few actually know a Daphne...

If you like the "ia" at the end...What about:

Daphne Sophia

Daphne Olivia

Daphne Aaliyah

Daphne Miranda

Also,

Daphne Page, Daphne Brielle, Daphne Ann, Daphne Elise are all cute as well.

Good Luck! SD
Reply:VERY NICE SOUNDING.
Reply:Daphne Claire maybe

Sounds very soft and pretty.

Similar to me: Sophie, Phoebe, Chloe, Zoe

Daphne Chantal

Daphne Noemi

Daphne Camille
Reply:Daphne is pretty and unique! But I would go with Daphne Clair, not Daphne Clara. I makes me think of a popular, pretty girl. I don't know why...it just does.
Reply:Don't like it, sorry.
Reply:Daphne makes me think of the orange haired ditzy chick on Scooby Doo who always wanted to make out with Fred. Clara is okay but not my first pick....

It's kinda blah...
Reply:Nope, don't like it at all. Daphne makes me think of a fat, shy girl.
Reply:I prefer Clara or Claire to Daphne.

Daphne Clara Monet? That is cute though.
Reply:Um...well this is going to sound awful but you did ask for opinions. Clara makes me thing of Clarabelle the cow so I am picturing a big old black %26amp; white cow with a funny hat %26amp; flower and a cowbell hanging from her neck with Daphne Clara inscribed on it. (she is a funny cow though, kinda like the Home on the Range cows)

sorry - I know it sounds mean
Reply:Sorry...

It reminds me of Scooby Doo.

Geeky girl.
Reply:i think its beautiful it goes together well it sounds like the perfect name for a beautiful little girl or even a business woman you don't want anything way out there that no one can pronounce
Reply:I think its a beautiful name for a girl and a woman. Its very classy
Reply:Daphne Clara just has too many syllables...maybe a middle name with only 1 syllable...like Claire or Lynn...

of coarse who am i to talk? my son was the first grandchild on both sides so i wanted BOTH his grandfathers names in it...so his name is Aidan Mark-David....lots of syllables
Reply:I'm with anyone who said "Daphne Clare" or Claire." I think Daphne is a lovely name, and while I am a big fan of the name Clara (it's my great-grandmother's name), I don't think it works with Daphne as well as you might like.
Reply:I love Daphne, but I don't think Clara goes well with it. How about Daphne Claire?
Reply:I prefer Daphne Clare (clara has 2 sylables -- too many together)
Reply:Sorry, I'm not a fan of either name. I prefer Claire over Clara, but I don't think that goes well with Daphne.

When I think of Daphne I think of the dippy girl from Scooby Doo!

Claire would go well with your surname of Monet though.

Consider:

Darcy Claire Monet

Danielle Claire Monet

Avril Claire Monet

Brielle Claire Monet

Chantal Claire Monet

Monique Claire Monet
Reply:i love it! it sounds feminine and soft and pretty i think it is very unique and for some reason it makes me think of a ballet dancer. i really like it!
Reply:No. I envision A Southern belle.
Reply:Daphne makes me think of Scooby Doo. I like Clarice Daphne Moret better.
Reply:pretty unique ...
Reply:Its really pretty
Reply:i really like that name. it's nice because it's not common, but it's not weird, either. daphne clara sounds like a sweet girl who is very feminine.
Reply:i love it either way

------- Daphne Clara Moret ---------

or

-------- Clara Daphne Moret ----------

i think the 2nd one is better. i think that it is unique and beautiful!

1st one makes me think of someone who is fun, knows how to have a good time and enjoy life and is respectful of others.

2nd one makes me think of a girl reading and writing and loves music and loves to go out and play in the park and LOVES swings! who grows up just fine with you not having to worry so much.

hope this helps %26amp; Congradulations!
Reply:I like the name very much. I highly doubt she will ever meet someone with the exact same name. The name makes me think of rich, ritzy, girls--maybe the beauty pagent type!
Reply:I love it!
Reply:It makes me think of someone who is stuck up.
Reply:no sorry i like them sparately but they clash really bad togther. Daphne makes me think of a spunky energenic girl, and Clara quiet smart, always thinking.
Reply:I like the sound of that. It really flows lightly off the tongue. It is pretty and unique. I think of a pretty little girl who likes to have fun.
Reply:I like Claire better, not Clara or Daphne.

Who wrote the story of Daphne and Apollo?

It was written by Roman poet Ovid. Publius Ovidius Naso (March 20, 43 BC – 17 AD) was a Roman poet known to the English-speaking world as Ovid who wrote on many topics, including love, abandoned women and mythological transformations. Ranked alongside Virgil and Horace as one of the three canonical poets of Latin literature, Ovid was generally considered a great master of the elegiac couplet. His poetry, much imitated during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, had a decisive influence on European art and literature for centuries.

Who wrote the story of Daphne and Apollo?
I think it was from Ovid's Metamorphosis.
Reply:I believe it comes from Greek Mythology. I don't believe there is any one author who wrote Greek Mythology - just as there is not one author of the mythology we call The Bible. Pax-C

Help! How short is the "Daphne costume", tv character from Scooby Doo??
Well it is a one size costume and it is a size 12 adult. It depends how tall you are. The model is atleast 5'9" and it comes to about 3-4 inches above her knee. If you are 5' like me it would come to your knee.

You are going to hear alot of sarcastic remarks on this one. People have had worse friends trust me. It's ok to have your bug friend, however, try having some friends of the human kind too ok.

Do you mean an actual "bug"?
Reply:A terrarium to keeps plants in can also hold beneficial bugs that are protective. Also some bugs are good to have around to keep other harmful pests away. If your bug is friendly - maybe's she useful.

How come Fred and Daphne always go by themselves to look for clues and leave Velma with Shaggy and Scooby?

Think about it!

How come Fred and Daphne always go by themselves to look for clues and leave Velma with Shaggy and Scooby?
super easy! Daphne is cool. Velma is a dork. Everybody knows that Fred and Daphne %26lt;3 each other. Because they are both fashionable, rich, and pretty, they would rather go by themselves instead of with a dork, a loser, and a dog....

p.s.: mj45 is right!
Reply:You know, thats right they do, even on the new ones lol and then the camera cuts them off for a bit and the camera is on Shaggy Scooby and Velma, and they somehow turn up at the end of the show, maybe the clues are already in the "Mystery Machine" Fred and Daphne get busy, then when they're done they grab the clues out of the Van and act like absolutely nothing happened idk lol
Reply:Someone has a lot of time on their hands :P you know I never noticed that before maybe Fred is picky about his women, and frankly Velma is not a prize, so thats what I say lol
Reply:because daphne is a slut for fred

How come Fred and Daphne always go by themselves to look for clues and leave Velma with Shaggy and Scooby?

Think about It!

How come Fred and Daphne always go by themselves to look for clues and leave Velma with Shaggy and Scooby?
Okay...I'm thinking. Done. It's actually obvious, Fred likes Daphne and I'm pretty sure Daphne likes Fred, too. Velma, Shaggy and Scooby are kinda rejects I suppose. I wouldn't mind Shaggy, though.
Reply:I always thought Velma was like the "safety backup" for Fred and Daphne. They went on ahead to follow the most obvious clue and Velma stayed put to look for less obvious clues. I think, if you pay close attention, Velma seems to always be the most thorough and independent of the group. While Velma follows a secondary clue, that's when Shaggy and Scooby Doo get left behind. Then the monster, who is really the property tax man with a rubber mask on, shows up to scare and chase Shaggy and Scooby Doo through the secret passage that opens up behind the fireplace.
Reply:So they can make out whilst the others are a bunch of mugs...

How old are Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Velma on Scooby Doo?

Before you all post abusive answers - I KNOW IT'S ONLY A CARTOON!!!!

..but seriously, if they are all teenagers,

a. where are their acne spots?

b. why aren't they home in bed by 11p.m.

c. why are their parents letting them roam the country the way they do?

d. how can they afford to run that van - they don't appear to have a job between them?

e. should teenagers be exposed to risky situations like that?

How old are Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Velma on Scooby Doo?
yea, but they are the same age in films now as when I used to watch it in the 70's, are THEY the ghosts?ssssoooooooo weird!
Reply:Diolch yn fawr i chi! Report It

Reply:They drive their own van............so that means they're older than about 10 (or whatever silly age they're allowed to drive in the USA)

You never see them drink alcohol............so that means they're younger than 35 ( or whatever silly age they're allowed to drink in the USA)

Shaggy is a bit of a stoner....so his parents probably kicked him out

Fred's parents are probably 'old money' and he obviously has a trust fund which allows them to run the van, etc

Velma and Daphne are groupies and have probably run away from an abusive home life.....Velma deals with it by dressing like a butch lesbian and Daphne deals with it by dressing in short skirts like a 2 bit ho'
Reply:They're actually all 104, senile, delinquent, alcoholic and heroin-dependent.

Having a job would be a complete enigma to them.
Reply:Well, to answer your 4th question, (d.) I think Daphne's parents are wealthy..meaning they should have money to have been able to buy and use the van. For the 1st, (A.) do you really think the creators of Scooby Doo would want to have their characters looking like pizza faces? For the 5th, (E.) No, teenagers shouldn't be exposed to situations like that..but hey, its a cartoon from around the 70s..why are you going to bother questioning their logic?
Reply:I wasn't going to post that. I never did with anyone else, but

a. I don't think the creator of the cartoon would show that since he probably wants to keep the cartoons fresh-looking and young.

b. They solve too much mysteries and like to stay up late

c. Probably because they either don't care or they know theire children are doing a good job at solving mysteries

d. I guess they still have their "piggy bank" money ^_^ or just asked their parents for some

e. And sometimes, I guess they do that with a lot of cartoons nowadays so they probably just do that for the attention. I wouldn't though! ^_^
Reply:they're all twelvty
Reply:a. they were chosen because they're flawless

b. they are old enough to drive, so don't need to be in certain time

c. again they are old enough to do what they want

d. there job is investigating for which I assume they do get paid

e. thats a mystery !!!! Scooby Dooby Doooooooooo !!
Reply:no offenerce it's a cartoon they can do what they like
Reply:they look about 17 to me and are probably in their gap year.
Reply:I don't know...but I much preferred the original to the new series.
Reply:Probably early 20s. To me they dont look like teenagers cos of the way they dress %26amp; their manerisms. Shaggy looks the oldest out the lot of them!!!!!
Reply:Good questions....let me see if I can help. All are between 19 and 20. They can be out and not have money because their parents think they are in college. They got the van from money their parents thought was for college. They were the first to invent Proactive, thus no acne. Since they are deliquents that lie to their parents, steal their money and don't care about their education....they run their own risk of being in those situations.
Reply:Well, the cartoon was set in the late 60s and early 70s, maybe it was a different time back then. Seemed like fun.
Reply:I can easily answer the 4th question.

"Scooby Snacks" are actually boxes of pot (have you ever wondered why Shaggy eats all the time?) that get vended out of the back of the van and that keeps them afloat.
Reply:They are in their twenties.
Reply:i think your case is looking 2 far into the cartoon way 2 far, but they are suposed 2 be teenagers and in the movie then young adult

byee bye
Reply:Good question. I've always figured they must be early twenties, since they are allowed to drive. And perhaps they are "private investigators" - so they actually get paid to fool around!

What is the song Daphne is listening to in Frasier, Crane vs Crane episode?

How do you say daphne and diamond in russian or german???

my dogs like to bark at people when we are out. i think if i say it in russian or german the dogs might pay more attention. at least it is worth a try.

How do you say daphne and diamond in russian or german???
When, since the words are not capitalized, I suppose they are not names, besides, names don't get translated ever, so it must be translated like this

a daphne - волчеягодник (volcheyagodnik)

a diamond - алмаз (almaz)

I'll come back in some hours to give the correct pronunciation, it requires the IPA symbols to be got, you know.
Reply:German would be "Daphne und Diamant" if you want to do a literal translation. "Dahf-nay oont dee-ah-mahnt" Don't know about the Russian, though.

The book Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier?

Alright...I'm on page15 and I'm really confused! Could somebody tell me what is happening through the pages I read?

The book Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier?
Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again...

I don't recall what exactly contained in the first 15 pages, but it starts out with the main character relating a dream she had about Manderley and how it had changed since she had last been there. She laments on how much Maxim misses England and how they can never go back again. Why? Well, you'll find that out in due time. A wonderful book, which picks up more after the first couple of chapters. Around chapter 3 (?) is the flashback, which continues for the rest of story as we are introduced to Mrs. Van Hopper, who is a rich American lady who pays for our heroine to be her paid companion, or "friend of the bosom", and is really quite self-absorbed. They are vacationing in Monte Carlo, which is where our heroine meets Maxim de Winter.

I'm sorry, I don't know how far you are in relation to this, but if you need more help, feel free to email me- I'm a huge fan of Daphne du Maurier and as long as I'm not doing your homework for you, have absolutely no problems answering questions. However, it should get more clear after chapter 2.

Hope this helps, and happy reading!
Reply:It is a really cool book. It is about a rich American woman that marries a man who lost his first wife. The housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers, loved the first wife (the perfect Rebecca) and is mean to the second wife.

You gradually find out more about Rebecca and how she died.
Reply:Well, it is a very long time since I read the book. As far as I can remember, the heroine, who narrates the story (we never learn her name)is telling the story of how she and her husband first met. She is a shy young girl working as a companion to a rich American lady (a companion was supposed to look after her employer, not exactly a servant but not an equal either). She is very attracted by the glamorous, mysterious Max de Winter who is staying at the same hotel. He has lost his first wife, the beautiful Rebecca, in an accident at sea. As I recall it, he begins spending some time with the heroine, and then when she is about to leave for America with her employer, he asks her to marry him and go to live with him at his home in Cornwall, Manderley.

She (the narrator) becomes obsessed with the glamorous Rebecca, and becomes more and more convinced that her husband is comparing her unfavourably to his beautiful, accomplished first wife. She spends a lot of time imagining what Rebecca was like and how happy Max must have been with her.

I seem to remember there are bits where she describes what she and her husband Max are doing in the present (at the time she is telling the story, which is evidently some years after it actually happened). Maybe that is what confuses you? She and Max are evidently staying in ahotel somewhere abroad, and she is talking about being homesick for England I think.
Reply:One correction I'd make is that the new Mrs. de Winter is NOT a rich American woman. Actually she was a mousy little companion to a rich American woman. When the woman finds out her companion is going to marry Maxim, she abuses her and tells her that he loved his first wife, Rebecca, and he'll NEVER love her.

The new Mrs. de Winter is so unsure of herself and unsophisticated, that when she gets to Manderley she makes many mistakes. Mrs. Danvers looks down on her as being nothing like her beloved, beautiful, graceful, carefree, sophisticated Rebecca.

There's a mystery to the story surrounding Rebecca, her cousin and Mrs. Danvers. It's a wonderful book.

What, exactly, is confusing you? You have to be more specific if you need a detailed answer.

What is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier about?

I need to know the central conflict, resolution, and theme of the book.

What is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier about?
About the second wife who is tormented by the legacy of the first wife, Rebecca. It ends with the Manderley (the mansion they live in) being burned to the ground. They speculate as to whether or not Rebecca's death was suicide or not. But you should really just rent the movie that was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Thats a good summary.
Reply:Rebecca is about obsessive love and the affect it has on people.

Max is initially captivated by Rebecca but as her true character is revealed he grows to hate her. The housekeeper Mrs. Danvers is also obssessed with her and considers Manderlay as a shrine dedicated to her.

The central conflict is the struggle between the ghost of Rebecca and those whose lives she affected and is still controlling even from beyond. It is their struggle to free themselves.

The resolution is the revelation that Max murdered Rebecca. Each of the characters can now move forward even though it may not be in a positive direction.

"Maxim: You thought I loved Rebecca? You thought that? I hated her! Oh, I was carried away by her - enchanted by her, as everyone was. And when I was married, I was told that I was the luckiest man in the world. She was so lovely - so accomplished - so amusing. 'She's got the three things that really matter in a wife,' everyone said: 'breeding, brains, and beauty.' And I believed them - completely. But I never had a moment's happiness with her. She was incapable of love, or tenderness, or decency. "
Reply:This is a deeply thought provoking book. You really should read it then DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!!

Daphne is all obvious....

Guys...who is sexier? Daphne or Velma ? (%26amp; Why?)?
Daphne

Daphne, who comes from a wealthy family, is noted for her red hair, her fashion sense, her catch phrase ("jeepers!"), and her tendency to get into danger, hence earning from Fred the nickname "Danger-prone Daphne."

While not as smart as Velma, Daphne would attempt to solve her problems in a fashionable way. Daphne became more confident and started playing a more active role as time wore on, possibly as a result of changing attitudes towards women during the 1960s and 1970s. It has been theorized by many fans that Daphne and Fred are attracted to one another, something the later direct to video features toyed with while never officially putting them together.

There is an old Greek story about girl Daphne,,, there is wine called "***** Daphne" dedicated to her...
Don't you mean "Mavrodaphne" - "black laurel"?

"Mavrodaphne is a rich, dark dessert wine, similar to a port. This romantic wine has a romantic story to match. Supposedly, a German winemaker owned some vineyards in Greece, where the crop was primarily the Mavro variety of grapes. Almost against his will, he found himself falling in love with one of the grape pickers he employed, a beautiful Greek maiden named Daphne. Before he could make up his mind to tell her of his love, the girl sickened and died. Heartbroken, the vintner named his wine after the two things he most loved - the Mavro grapes, and the maiden Daphne."

She was fifteen years older than the 19-year-old character. While that works on stage, it would have been really obvious on the screen. Also, she was pregnant at the time of filming.

Daphne du Maurier wrote "Rebecca", which later became a great Alfred Hitchcock movie.

What are Dame Daphne du Maurier and Rory Emerald famous for?
daphne du maurier was famous for being murdered, not sure about the other guy
Reply:Well they are both famous for many things. But I think as a couple, they are most famous for their Tango performance on "Dancing With The Stars" and eliminating Marie Osmond and her partner from the competition.

best of luck to you!
Reply:Dame Daphne du Maurier wrote many novels. "Jamaica Inn" and "Rebecca" were two of her best known ones. Look her up in wikipedia for more information. Rory Emerald is in wikipedia too.
Reply:Daphne, Lady Browning DBE (13 May 1907–19 April 1989), commonly known as Dame Daphne du Maurier, was a famous British novelist, playwright and short story writer. Many of her works were adapted into films, such as one of her most famous books, Rebecca, which won the Best Picture Oscar in 1940 for director Alfred Hitchcock, who would later bring her short story, The Birds, onto the big screen.

Rory Emerald is a serial prankster who is placing fake classified ads claiming to have found bizarre items. Some of the things he's claimed to have found include "Laura Bush's gold cigarette case and lighter, a two-headed kitten, Eva Peron's inauguration gown and diamond scepter, Leonardo da Vinci's original paint brushes and palette, an ice sculpture of SpongeBob SquarePants and a life-size wax figure of Herman Munster."

Reply:They both have ties to The Royal Family.
Reply:Dame Daphne wrote sophisticated mysteries. Rory, Baron Sligo, is at the center of many a sophisticated mystery.
Reply:daphne was very upset with her publishers because they changed the name of her book from rory to rebecca,it was the story about the early life of rory (and as we know that rory was fond of dressing in ladies attire)to cover his real persona,so thats how they are known to each other, there is also another rumour that rory is in fact daphne's illigitimate son ,

Who killed Mayumi/Daphne (Angelica dela Cruz) in Prinsesa ng Banyera??

It's Rosa Perrei (Sharmaine Buencamino). She's the mother of Charles and the mother-in-law of Daphne.

Who killed Mayumi/Daphne (Angelica dela Cruz) in Prinsesa ng Banyera??
ara mina!
Reply:It's Rosa! The lawyer, Victor, named her.

And Rosa, herself, relived how it happened. She went to Daphne's house to shoot Maningning (Kristine Hermosa), not Daphne, but the latter discovered her by accident. They fumbled for the gun, and Rosa shot her.

However, since the case is still sub judice, I really should not be talking about it. We could all be cited for contempt of court, you know!!

In 'Rebecca' by Daphne DuMaurier what is Mrs deWinter's first name.?

It's never revealed in the book, just wondering what you always imagined her name to be?

In 'Rebecca' by Daphne DuMaurier what is Mrs deWinter's first name.?
I always thought old English like Elizabeth, Victoria, or Margaret, even Charlotte. I always thought she has an older sounding name that was rich and imposing- one you could picture on revered royalty.
Reply:Rebecca is the name of the first wife.

The given name of the second Mrs. de Winter is not revealed in the novel. However, in chapter 3, after she receives a note from Maxim, she says how her name was 'spelt correctly, an unusual thing', which implies that her name is either strange or complex. In neither version is the narrator named (Joan Fontaine played the role in the movie).

I have always liked the name Lorelei.
Reply:At one point Maxim de Winter tells her 'you have a very beautiful and unusual name' but I have no idea what the name might be. i've always considered the second mrs de winter a bit dreary myself, so it is hard for me to imagine her having a beautiful and unusual anything.

In my high school Spanish class, I was told that *Don Quixote De La Mancha* sold the most copies of books after *The Bible*

I prefer Russian novels..I really liked *The Brothers Karamazov*
Reply:No. Good, though.
Reply:Probably not the best but one of the best.
Reply:Ummm, no.
Reply:I don't think you can have a single best novel. Wasn't it once said, "There is no order among the superlative". Or something like that. In other words it would be possible to have ten best friends or ten best novels.

I think they had a survey among current authors recently and they voted Cervantes' Don Quixote as No 1. Thinking about it right now for myself, Maugham's "The Moon and Sixpence". comes to mind, but tomorrow it would very likely be different.

I am sure I have 100 best novels, you would just have to keep asking the question.

Legitimate "Apollo and Daphne" English translation???

I am a Latin student translating excerpts from the book "Love and Transformation", and am looking for a good English translation to help me through the Latin readings. Any help is appreciated.

Legitimate "Apollo and Daphne" English translation???
APOLLO AND DAPHNE

Daphne was Apollo’s first love. It was not brought about by accident, but by the malice of Cupid. Apollo saw the boy playing with his bow and arrows; and being himself elated with his recent victory over Python, he said to him, “What have you to do with warlike weapons, saucy boy? Leave them for hands worthy of them, Behold the conquest I have won by means of them over the vast serpent who stretched his poisonous body over acres of the plain! Be content with your torch, child, and kindle up your flames, as you call them, where you will, but presume not to meddle with my weapons.” Venus’s boy heard these words, and rejoined, “Your arrows may strike all things else, Apollo, but mine shall strike you.” So saying, he took his stand on a rock of Parnassus, and drew from his quiver two arrows of different workmanship, one to excite love, the other to repel it. The former was of gold and ship pointed, the latter blunt and tipped with lead. With the leaden shaft he struck the nymph Daphne, the daughter of the river god Peneus, and with the golden one Apollo, through the heart. Forthwith the god was seized with love for the maiden, and she abhorred the thought of loving. Her delight was in woodland sports and in the spoils of the chase. lovers sought her, but she spurned them all, ranging the woods, and taking no thought of Cupid nor of Hymen. Her father often said to her, “Daughter, you owe me a son–in–law; you owe me grandchildren.” She, hating the thought of marriage as a crime, with her beautiful face tinged all over with blushes, threw her arms around her father’s neck, and said, “Dearest father, grant me this favour, that I may always remain unmarried, like Diana.” He consented, but at the same time said, “Your own face will forbid it.”

Apollo loved her, and longed to obtain her; and he who gives oracles to all the world was not wise enough to look into his own fortunes. He saw her hair flung loose over her shoulders, and said, “If so charming, in disorder, what would it be if arranged?” He saw her eyes bright as stars; he saw her lips, and was not satisfied with only seeing them. He admired her hands and arms, naked to the shoulder, and whatever was hidden from view he imagined more beautiful still. He followed her; she fled, swifter than the wind, and delayed not a moment at his entreaties. “Stay,” said he, “daughter of Peneus; I am not a foe. Do not fly me as a lamb flies the wolf, or a dove the hawk. It is for love I pursue you. You make me miserable, for fear you should fall and hurt yourself on these stones, and I should be the cause. Pray run slower, and I will follow slower. I am no clown, no rude peasant. Jupiter is my father, and I am lord of Delphos and Tenedos, and know all things, present and future. I am the god of song and the lyre. My arrows fly true to the mark; but, alas! an arrow more fatal than mine has pierced my heart! I am the god of medicine, and know the virtues of all healing plants. Alas! I suffer a malady that no balm. can cure!”

The nymph continued her flight, and left his plea half uttered. And even as she fled she charmed him. The wind blew her garments, and her unbound hair streamed loose behind her. The god grew impatient to find his wooings thrown away, and, sped by Cupid, gained upon her in the race. It was like a hound pursuing a hare, with open jaws ready to seize, while the feebler animal darts forward, slipping from the very grasp. So flew the god and the virgin– he on the wings of love, and she on those of fear. The pursuer is the more rapid, however, and gains upon her, and his panting breath blows upon her hair. Her strength begins to fail, and, ready to sink, she calls upon her father, the river god: “Help me, Peneus! open the earth to enclose me, or change my form, which has brought me into this danger!” Scarcely had she spoken, when a stiffness seized all her limbs; her bosom began to be enclosed in a tender bark; her hair became leaves; her arms became branches; her foot stuck fast in the ground, as a root; her face became a tree–top, retaining nothing of its former self but its beauty, Apollo stood amazed. He touched the stem, and felt the flesh tremble under the new bark. He embraced the branches, and lavished kisses on the wood. The branches shrank from his lips. “Since you cannot be my wife,” said he, “you shall assuredly be my tree. I will wear you for my crown; I will decorate with you my harp and my quiver; and when the great Roman conquerors lead up the triumphal pomp to the Capitol, you shall be woven into wreaths for their brows. And, as eternal youth is mine, you also shall be always green, and your leaf know no decay.” The nymph, now changed into a Laurel tree, bowed its head in grateful acknowledgment.

Do you like Daphne DuMaurier?

I had to read Rebecca when I was in the 10th grade, and because of how much I loved the book....I bought a lot of her books off of ebay after it. But yet...I've never read any of them. lol. One day I will, I just haven't done it yet.

Do you like her? What are your favorite books by her?

I have Jamaica Inn, My Cousin Rachel, The Flight of The Falcon, Don't Look Now, Rebecca, and The Glass Blowers.

Aside from Rebecca, any of those that are really really good that I should read before the others?

Do you like Daphne DuMaurier?
"Rebecca" is one of my favourite Daphne du Maurier books. I also loved "Frenchman's Creek", a romance and weepie, with one of the greatest love scenes I've ever read (it was suggested...)

"Jamaica Inn" is also a good story, a bit of a thriller; and I was intrigued by "My Cousin Rachel".

"Don't Look Now" was scary, and made into a very good film with Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland.

But one of the strangest books, dealing with time travel, is "The House on the Strand".

I've read a few more, but the above remain the most memorable. I envy you reading them for the first time!
Reply:I liked several of her earlier novels, but I didn't care for her later books..Rebecca was my favorite. I also liked The Scapegoat Jamaica Inn, Frenchman's Creek

Today, I couldn't tell you what they're about, but as a teenager, I thought they were great. I also liked Mary Stewart. I remember enjoying Nine Coaches Waiting and Moonspinners.
Reply:Rebecca was great, it's one of my favorite books!

I haven't read any others; I just got one from the library though.

I would start with Jamaica Inn, because I believe it's also, like Rebecca, a Hitchcock movie. It has to be pretty good to be made into a movie. And I also like to watch and compare movies to books. But that's just me.

Hopefully I'm not completely wrong about this =)

Story of Daphne and Apollo?

I JUST need a short summary of what this myth is about.

Just the important facts, no cheesy details.

Story of Daphne and Apollo?
SUMMARY

Apollon reaches out to grasp the Nymphe Daphne who escapes his pursuit, transformed into a laurel. Her womanly form is shown in the process of metamorphosis, with legs replaced by trunk and head and arms sprouting branches. The god carries a bow.
Reply:girl prefers treedom to deflowering
Reply:o that's easy Daphne was a forest nymph who caught the attention of Apollo. Apollo fell in love with her but she rejected him, so Apollo pursued her but she had to run in order to get away. During the middle of this chase she asked her river guardian father to help her and he changed her into a Laurel tree. Apollo loved her so much that he took her leaves and branches and made a Laurel crown which become Apollo's symbol and crowned important people in Greece and Rome.
Reply:According to Greek myth, Apollo chased the nymph Daphne. His infatuation was caused by an arrow from Eros, who wanted to make Apollo pay for making fun of his archery skills. For protection, her father Peneus, turned her into a laurel tree. In her honor, Apollo created a wreath from her leaves. The wreath, since called a Daphne, remains a symbol of excellence.

Rebecca by daphne du maurier?

were doing a discussion on this book tomorrow and i need to have 10 questions about the setting to start a discussion. can you please help!! ill give points and everything!!!

Rebecca by daphne du maurier?
This is "Rebecca," published in 1938. It was a bestseller in England and the United States, and in 1940 was produced as a movie by David O. Selznick, an extraordinary work of cinematic art starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine and Judith Anderson and directed by Alfred Hitchcock, his first film for an American studio. Thanks in great measure to the movie, the book has been steadily in print ever since, in one paperback edition after another, and to this day enjoys sales that would be envied by many a Flavor of the Month author of ostensibly "serious" fiction.

It is no exaggeration to say that du Maurier was the 20th century's Charlotte Bronte and "Rebecca" the 20th century's "Jane Eyre." The parallels between the two authors and the two books are obvious. Though Bronte's childhood circumstances were straitened and du Maurier's privileged, both girls lived essentially interior lives in which imagination, storytelling and fantasy were central. Both published early (Bronte under the pseudonym Currer Bell) and both became wildly successful; Michael Mason, in his introduction to the Penguin Classics edition of "Jane Eyre," says it "may be the most read novel in English," and he may be right. Both women eventually married, du Maurier eagerly and Bronte reluctantly.

Over the years there have been countless imitations of "Jane Eyre." Whether "Rebecca" is in fact one of these is debatable, but the similarities do tend to leap out. Jane Eyre is governess to a wealthy girl; the unnamed narrator of "Rebecca" is companion to a wealthy older woman. Both women (19 and 21 years old, respectively) are mousy in appearance (or think they are) and beleaguered by self-doubt. Both come into the employ of brooding, mysterious men in their forties -- Edward Fairfax Rochester and Maxim de Winter -- and both fall in love with them. Both men harbor dreadful secrets: Jane learns Rochester's on the eve of their wedding, the heroine of "Rebecca" learns de Winter's after three months of marriage. The majestic country mansions owned by both men burn to the ground in spectacular conflagrations. Happy endings are achieved, but at a high price.

It is tempting to pigeonhole "Rebecca" as "Jane Lite," but that simply is not true. If it hasn't quite the depth, if at times it lapses into conventions of the gothic novel or the English mystery novel, "Rebecca" is nonetheless a work of immense intelligence and wit, elegantly written, thematically solid, suspenseful even a second time around.

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier... Is it in public domain? And how do I know for other books in the future?

Daphne du Maurier's books wouldn't be in the public domain yet. She died in 1989, so the copyright would have been in her name until then. So, if I'm reading it correctly, 2060 would probably be the time when it would become public domain, unless some laws change.

From Wikipedia: "Copyrights are more complex than patents; generally, in current law, the copyright in a published work expires in all countries (except Colombia, Côte d'Ivoire, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Samoa, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) when any of the following conditions are satisfied :[2]

The work was created and first published before January 1, 1923, or at least 95 years before January 1 of the current year, whichever is later;

The last surviving author died at least 70 years before January 1 of the current year;

No Berne Convention signatory has passed a perpetual copyright on the work; and

Neither the United States nor the European Union has passed a copyright term extension since these conditions were last updated. (This must be a condition because the exact numbers in the other conditions depend on the state of the law at any given moment.)"

cause i miss the episode when she died and i can't find the episode anywhere so tell me plzzzz

Why Mayumi /Daphne died in Prinsesa ng banyera (Tv series)?
This is what I remember of that episode, if my drinking does not interfere with my memory.

She was pregnant with Charles' child, and he professed to have learned to love her, and they were back in each other's arms, so to speak. She told him that if he (Charles) still had feelings for Maningning (Khristine Hermosa character) that she would no longer stand in their way, but seems he earnestly loves her now, and he even admitted this to his mother.

The scene where she gets shot was that someone knocked on the door, and she was, it seems to me, pleasantly surprised - until a gun was pulled, and she pleaded for her life while backing away. The killer's face is not shown in the scene, so it remains a mystery.

But I can assure you, it wasn't me. I just love Angelica Dela Cruz.

Which of Daphne Du Maurier's novels is the most inspiring and powerful?

The first one I ever read- The House on The Strand- i read it when I was about 16- the teacher of my Reading class noticed that I read 99% british books and bought the paperback with me in mind--I was totally hooked on that book and not only have I reread ( or listened to the book on tape) at yrly -I actually stayed in the area in Cornwall where the book takes place and saw many of the places described in the book.( there is a map in the book) And I visited the Daphne book center in Fowey Cornwall.

I love the fact %26amp; fiction blend- the 'time travel' and the history. The ending rather freaked my teenage brain out.

Since that book I have read everything she has written-some several times and I have several bios on Daphne.

I tend to enjoy the history related and the Macabe stories the most. I like that many of her books leave room for the reader to draw their own conclusions-they are not all cut %26amp; dried. I will admitt that I didn't like all her books-maybe someday i should give one or two a reread and see if I have changed my mind.

But House on The Strand began my love of her works and my love of Cornwall ( later the Poldark series only intenified it)

Reply:I love "Rebecca", I first read it when I was 13, and I still read it every year or so. I also like "The Scapegoat" - I think it's quite unlike any of her other books. Her short stories can be quite spooky - like "The Apple Tree".

Happy reading!!
Reply:I've only read "Rebecca" for school reading. i would've never picked it up if it wasnt for school. but i actually really liked it.

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier?

Does the new wife ever acquire any real power?

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier?
Why not read it through and find out for yourself? Why spoil the ending by asking?

BTW, after you've read it, rent the film version with Lawrence Olivier, Vivien Leigh (I think), and Judith Anderson. There's also a BBC production with Diana Rigg (of The Avengers fame) as the housekeeper (I'm blanking on her name). I haven't seen it, but if Ms. Rigg is involved, it's bound to be good!
Reply:She acquires power over her servants after finding courage in herself and her marriage. She gains the power to overcome the memory of Rebecca that haunts her, and also the housekeeper Mrs. Danvers.
Reply:kind of......but near the end of the book... I had 2 read this book 4 summer reading and it was good....

Rebecca by Daphne du maurier?

what age was the second mrs de winter meant to be while living at Manderlay?

Rebecca by Daphne du maurier?
Quite young early twenties probably, great book have to read it again!
Reply:She was very young...probably in her early twenties.
Reply:It's true her age and name are never revealed. But I also believe she was in her twenties. It is one of my favorite books! If you liked that, you might also enjoy The Scarlet Pimpernel.
Reply:I don't know that the novel told her age; after all DuMaurier never even gave her a name, but I would guess about 21 or 22, much younger than her middle-aged husband. The way she is described sounds youthful, no make-up and simple hairstyle. Also, companions ( her job when she met Max) were usually very young.
Reply:The book doesn't even gives her a first name !As, the book is written from her prespective,we find out very little about her.

I've always imagined her to be about 23.

One of my favourite books.
Reply:Don't know the answer I'm sorry, but I just wanted to say I'm so glad to enjoy this book with someone else.

Rebecca By Daphne Du Maurier?

anyone ever read the book? what did you think about it? I LOVED it!

Rebecca By Daphne Du Maurier?
I have read the book, the sequel and watched Hitchcock's movie so many times that whenever I fall asleep in front of the tv (no matter what's on), my hubby wakes me by calling out "Hey, Rebecca!" lol

What an amazing story it is!!! I love it!
Reply:I think it is an exciting story, but the heroine is a bit of a ninny. And I would not myself care to be married to a man who shot his first wife. That sort of thing can become a habit.
Reply:I love Daphne Du Maurier books. Check out Hitchcock's treatments of a few of her works...Rebecca is fascinating..The Birds is a hoot...Very interesting.
Reply:Brilliant!! The charcters and the house seemed so real if you enjoyed it, i would recommend Jamaica Inn, also by Daphne Du Maurier
Reply:I extremely enjoyed the book. So much so, that I bought and read the sequel, Mrs. DeWinter, even though it was written by someone else.
Reply:I had to read it in 8th grade. I did a report on it. I thought it was really good.

Rebecca by daphne du maurier?

were doing a discussion on this book tomorrow and i need to have 10 questions about the setting to start a discussion. can you please help!! ill give points and everything!!!

Rebecca by daphne du maurier?
Start with why doesn't the author ever give the second Mrs. De Winter a name?

Then - why does Mrs. Danvers instantly hate her?

What did Rebecca have that the second Mrs. De Winter lacks?

That should get you started.

Pax - C
Reply:let's see, you could start by asking what the setting is!

of course, you'd have to answer this question yourself to be able to continue to ask questions.

so ... what is the setting? here's a hint: it's in the first sentence of the book. well, there are two physical settings, what are they? hey, there's your second question!

keep in mind that setting isn't just place, but also time. so in your first question, you're asking: where does this take place, and WHEN does this take place?

so ask yourself why the setting is important to your story. hey, question number three!

for the other seven questions, you're going to have to think about what the setting is, why there are two places in the story, why the author chose those two places, what the time period is, and why all of these things are important to the story.

then, start asking more and more specific questions about the answers you yourself come up with.

good luck!
Reply:You could ask how the setting affects the character and her feelings/actions. Does the setting alienate her, and therefore affect her perceptions or assumptions about her husband?

What possesed Daphne Du Murior to write about prirate ships in Cornwall, because Fishermans Creak was written?

And she grew up in Cornwall all her life - so why not write about something close to the heart?

What possesed Daphne Du Murior to write about prirate ships in Cornwall, because Fishermans Creak was written?
She lived in Cornwall, and its heritage was obviously close to her heart. anyway, she wouldn't have to travel far to do the research.
Reply:Because Cornwall was a hot bed for Smuggling.

Why did Daphne get the guys not Velma (in scooby doo!)?

Just wondered about your opinions...

Why did Daphne get the guys not Velma (in scooby doo!)?
Good question! Velma was Smokin in Scooby Doo 2!!! Come To Mommy!!!
Reply:You're kidding right? Daphne was smokin compared to Velma. Who would you rather date? Ugly Betty or Kate Beckinsale?
Reply:Because they could never remember Velmas name.
Reply:cuz Velma was short, fat, and wore glasses
Reply:You never got to see what went on behind closed doors between Daphne and Velma. Shaggy loves his dog and Fred loves himself.
Reply:Well, maybe it's because all the guys fall for the less smarter, more prettier girls. And Daphne, just happens to beat her out.

Never thought about it.... But, good question.
Reply:velmas a neek! and not pretty in those clothes!
Reply:cause she was hot
Reply:cuz daphne's hot
Reply:i didnt watch scooby do much... cuz i hate the show... but when i saw it noone got any guy...
Reply:Scooby doo is stereotype. Hot chicks always have to get the guys . . . plus Sarah Michelle Gellar is hot
Reply:Sl@t trumps nerd in most cases
Reply:velma should have gone to specsavers and then onto the salon for a good hair do....daph is quite good looking and stylish for a cartoon..don't ya think?
Reply:cuz she was the "hot" one, and velma was the dorky one
Reply:because guys think that girls with glasses are freaks
Reply:Whoa there!! I've known quite a few men and women who thought Velma was the "hot" one!

I think it depends on who you're asking.

Once you've had a woman of substance that you connect with, no pretty face with little content is going to suffice. Remembering that just because Daphne was "good looking" doesn't mean she was dumb. Beauty doesn't equal dumb.

You can be ugly and still be stupid, you know.
Reply:Daphne was more social, Velma was more of a home body.
Reply:cause she was wearing the skimpy dress and she had long legs. plus Velma was too interested in work and mystery's and Daphne was interested in her facial powder

Rebecca by Daphne Du Marnier?

What kind of an imperssion did it leave on you? Could you relate to the narrator?

Rebecca by Daphne Du Marnier?
I finally got around to reading it last year and I was just astounded. Du Maurier really captures that gothic trope of a young woman coming of age in a world where she has little power and little understanding of events around her. Everything about the book reinforces it -- the melancholy landscape, de Winter's dark secrets, Rebecca's lingering charisma and presence, the namelessness of the narrator. And the quality of the writing is superb.
Reply:The mood of this book was very heavy and dark, almost smothering at times.
Reply:Loved it when I was young. Probably won't try reading it again because I would not want to be disappointed. Rebecca seemed to be the beginning of a genre which I have since read through and probably will not revisit.
Reply:I read it when I was a teenager and loved it. Then I could relate to the narrator because typically teenage girls are insecure. I reread it as an adult and it seemed dated/old fashioned. I wrote a thesis on the similarities between Rebbecca and Jane Eyre. At the time Jane Eyre was written, it was viewed as a feminist novel. -I'm not sure of the point I'm making but I thought I would throw that out there.
Reply:As a teenager I loved this book. The atmosphere it provoked, the writing was so perfect. The words left such a distinct impression of suspense and clear pictures of what was happening. A few years ago, at 50+, I tried to read it again, and was just bored.

Usually I love to re-read books, but I think you can outgrow books, as well.
Reply:I read it in high school. I remember being really drawn to it for some reason. And isn't there a sequel of sorts??? I remember reading that a few years later. I believe it is called Mrs. DeWinter and its by Susan Hill Long. But I haven't tried reading it lately.

Who is daphne in greek mythology?

She was a nymph of the woods, Apollo, god of music, fell in love with her because of her beautiful voice.

She didnt want to have any relationship with him but it didnt stop him from chasing her.

Daphne, already desesperated, begged to the god of the rivers Peneus, to help her, so she was slowly turned into a Laurel tree.

That's why this tree is sacred to Apollo.

There's a very famous sculpture about this scene

Who is daphne in greek mythology?
Daphne was a nymph chased by Apollo whose infatuation with her was caused by the arrow of Eros. It was an act directed by Eros towards Apollo who had always been irritated by the manners of the god. Daphne prayed to the river god Peneus to help her and she was transformed into a laurel tree which became sacred to Apollo.

thelma

Thelma or Daphne?
its Velma, not Thelma
Reply:Thelma because she is so clever,Daphne is an airhead
Reply:Its Velma, but I like Velma better. She is smart.
Reply:funny i prefer the mystery machine,,,lol
Reply:Velma
Reply:Daphne has the looks but Thelma has the brains so it would have to be Thelma, as long as she didn't have bad breath..
Reply:I really don't like either of them... Velma is always losing her glasses... she's a dork... Daphne is an air-head with go-go boots...

Why daphne zuniga lefts melrose place series?
To be famous
Reply:She lefts cuz da series ended, fool.
Reply:"By the 1996-1997 season the series seemed to have peaked, with Amanda softening and Kimberly's long-running reign of terror finally running out of steam, and there was a growing consensus that the show could no longer shock or entertain viewers as it once had. After a end-of-season cliffhanger ending where Jo vacilated over leaving LA to join her new lover in Kosovo, the new season quickly explained that the now-absent Jo had indeed left town."
