Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy. Adults or teenagers?

Scooby Doo's chums intrigue me. Are they supposed to be adults or teenagers? If they're teenagers what are the parents thinking allowing them to run around in such a dangerous town? If they are adults should they really be running around solving mysteries with a 5 foot high Great Dane? Your thoughts please...

I'd say teens since they're referred to as "those meddling kids".

Don't try applying logic to cartoons; cartoons contain much fantasy and little logic. What evidence do you have that any of the group had parents, for example?
