from the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton?
Does anyone know the theme of Daphne?
I always understood the underlying idea of the story to be that even though Apollo couldn't have Daphne in the physical sense, he could still have her as his symbol (the laurel leaves.) One could also say that Apollo loved Daphne more than any of his other conquests because she was the one that got away, so to speak.
Reply:Even the gods are limited and frustrated by their desires.
