I think it is believable. At least the author succeeds in getting you involved with the main character. I suggest you watch the film, it may help you imagine the whole story possible. It is also a very enjoyable movie.
Reply:i read that book and i thought it was semi believable!

it could be a true story. i thought the romance of the novel believable.
Reply:yes, definitely. i thought the book was very believable for the time period it depicted. the romance was very believable also. this was one of my favorite books as a teenager.
Reply:I loved that book. Max's and Rebecca's romance did seem believable as many did not marry for love at the time. I also think that the narrator and Max weren't deeply in love. It did seem out of the ordinary when the truth finally came out.
Reply:You have to consider the period and culture in which this romance took place. In context and under these considerations the romance is believable. Many many men are taken in by a beautiful face only to discover the very ugly egocentric spirit that it hides. When the bloom is off the rose and the mistake is revealed they often ultimately look for the beautiful spirit they have been denied in a very plain girl.
